HOLIDAY GREETINGS

bumper-web.jpg

Here’s to wishing all my friends around the world the Happiest of Thanksgivings. Every day out of a kennel is a day to be grateful for.  Here is a list of the things I’m grateful for.

People. People are amazing and they are fun to watch. I love being hugged by them and have come to realize being hugged is the greatest gift in the world - next to smelling another dog’s behind. We dogs love the feeling of love and can’t seem to get enough. So when you make your New Year’s Resolutions List… top of the list: Hug everyone no matter what species.

Food.  I love food and I am grateful every day for its nourishment. It keeps me healthy and happy. I once heard some one said that food was God’s love made edible.  What does that say for fire hydrants?

dog-28.jpg Love. I love to love. That’s what we dogs do. Doesn’t make sense to do anything else than what we love doing at any moment we want to. You humans have a problem with that….one day you’ll learn. Love is all there is. Really and truly.  I could say more… but I smell food.

Nature. Thank you Nature! If food is God’s love made edible, then Nature must be God’s love made visible ‘cause it’s all beautiful. I never met a tree I didn’t like.

Peace. Peace is a warm bed, furry squeak toys, food and friends. We can all have it, but we must want it. Really and truly want it more than anything else in the world. Visualize Peace. Work for Peace. Think Peace. Be Peace.

May the Great Spirit, as you know spirit,  bless you and your family now and for every more with everlasting love and light and laughter.

BUMPER PROPOSES UNIFIED FORMS for 501 C 3 RESCUE GROUPS

A UNIFIED ADOPTION FORM IS A GOOD IDEA

  bumper-web.jpg

We’ve been chewing over recent events here in Los Angeles.  One idea that’s come to mind is that it may be a good idea and the right time for all Los Angeles 501 c3 rescue groups to develop a standardized adoption form.

While we’re at it we could also create universal forms for intake of animals, a 3rd party release of an animal to an agency, home check list criteria and interagency transfer, etc.

A standard set of forms would streamline the adoption process and possibly result in animals finding homes faster because alll potential adoptors will know one set of terms and conditions applies to all groups.

I am not suggesting relaxing any animal protection clauses, just standardizing them.

Ellen Degeneres did not hurt a dog!

“With all the yelping and howling in the media, you’d think Ellen hurt a dog.  SHE DIDN’T!

bumper-web.jpg

“You humans are wacky lot.” Bumper the Canine Laureate mused as he chomped on a bone.  “The media rabidly pursues a dog adoption fracas that wouldn’t be a fracas if a celebrity wasn’t involved,  yet rock on their heels and whistle when important issues of the day cry out for truth or at the very least impartiality.   No  wonder you humans  require so much therapy.”

All animal rescue groups are concerned about the saftey of their animals once they leave the confines of the rescue group.  We’re the ones who’ve spent countless hours and dollars nurturing these critters back to health and we want to be sure they’re safe and secure.

NO GOOD DEED EVER GETS LEFT UNPUNISHED.

In crystal clear 20/20 hindsight Ellen ought to have informed the adoption group of her intentions, and you know what?  That’s called a mistake.  Last time I checked, Ms. Degeneres is human, and you humans always make mistakes - That’s part of being human, and that’s why forgiveness is so Divine!  Dogs, on the other hand, don’t make mistakes because, well, we’re already DIVINE! WE’RE DOGS!

WE URGENTLY NEED CAPABLE, COMPETENT, ANIMAL LOVING PEOPLE TO STEP UP AND ADOPT MORE DOGS. PRONTO!

My heart goes out to Ms. DeGeneres, whom I know to be a kind, generous animal loving, wonderful human being. There is no excuse for this event to have gotten as far out of proportion as it has.  Speaking as a canine, I’m of the opinion the adoption group did more harm than good for the entire Los Angeles animal rescue community. Don’t loose sight of the BIG PICTURE Los Angeles:

A just published third quarter Los Angeles Department of Animal Services report indicates The Year-To-Date Euthanasia Rate: Cats and Dogs Combined (Jan 1 through Sept 30) is 11,665.  Let me say it another way, “ eleven thousand six hundred and sixty five animals are no longer here.”

We have one more quarter to go  and WINTER, our heaviest months,  is on the way.  Do we as Angelenos want to sit by as potentially 3,000 more animals are, um, er, what’s that nice clean sanitized word, you know! You humans use it all the time. Um, that’s it! “Put to sleep” -  by year’s end?

As a dog, I think not!

That’s it. I got to go -
